Smile Africa has found a place in the heart of AIM short-termer Rhonwen Hamer from Melbourne, Victoria. Rhonwen went to Smile Africa in Tororo, Uganda in November 2011 for a 6 week short-term ministry as part of a group of people from various AIM mobilising regions. Rhowen is 19 and is a dental nurse and attends St Alfred’s Anglican Church. She has just completed her second year of a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University in Melbourne. She hopes to do a masters degree in primary education from 2013.

On Aim Short-Term Ministry In Chad

All I knew about Chad was that it was a French and Arabic speaking country in Africa, that there had been a coup in 2008 along with bombs and evacuations, and what I learnt from reading an article from the AIM magazine (Africa News- February 2011), about the existence of a Christian school called College Evangelique which represented all the people groups (including unreached) of Chad. The article said they needed teachers who preferably already spoke French. So after many emails and lots of prayer, there I went for 9 weeks, to get my eyes opened and to serve wherever I could in this very short time frame.

Uganda Hospital Honours Pat Whisson

Former Australian missionary nurse Pat Whisson has been honoured with a hospital vehicle in her memory at the Kuluva Hospital in Uganda.  The hospital is operated by the Church of Uganda and is where Pat served for many years. The project was funded by a financial gift in memory of Pat from her family in Australia following her passing to be with the Lord in February 2010. Some joint funding for the project was provided from an organisation in the Netherlands.

Close shave raises more than $10,000 for African hospital

Medical student Alice Schroers shaved her hip-length locks in October to raise more than $10,000 for the Africa Inland Church Kapsowar hospital in Kenya.  Alice is one of eight medical students from Australia who did medical training electives in African hospitals during the Australian universities’ summer break.
