KENYA
Today was a quiet day around the country as people waited to hear results from the mediation talks. At 9:00pm last night Koffi Annan's representative sent a statement to the press saying that the mediation team would be moving out of Nairobi to an unknown location with a complete news blackout. He said that the team expects to produce an agreement on the political stalemate within the next 48-72 hours.
It will be helpful for the team to hammer out their agreement without every point being discussed in the media. Please pray for Koffi Annan and the mediation team during these next couple of days. These are crucial days to the future of Kenya.
CHAD/N'Djamena
-The guards all came back to work and there is a great clear up in the town. Looted furniture and appliances are being collected by the mayor and anyone caught with stolen goods is in great trouble. Amazingly our bank reopened! Electricity and water are being repaired but still no cell phones.
-The workers at Markus-al-Nour centre are determined to restart classes this week and are enthusiastic to get back to work.
-Fifty cars have been recovered and are at the police station and so we are trying to check those that have been lost and get copies of the "carte grise" (title deeds) so that they can be claimed.
-Still no contact with our colleagues at Dourbali but the road is now said to be safe and I will be seeking to send a message to them that they can drive to the capital.
-The rebel group in Am Timan has left the town.
-Wonderfully Philip and Sally Lowe's home (AIM) near the Presidential palace was not harmed. The faithful guard, David stayed and nothing has been lost.
So please join us in Praising God for his faithfulness as well as praying for our colleagues in Am Timan and Dourbali and the many colleagues in Cameroon, USA, and Europe who wonder whether they should come back and if so when. We of course cannot predict the future but the door remains open. Air France flights will resume tomorrow.
Thank you for your faithful prayers.
