Supporting tree planting is one way to help reforest the hills of Kijabe, Kenya
Kenya has faced severe environmental challenges especially in the past ten years. Woodlands have been so exploited that today less than two per cent of country's forests remain.
Starting in the late 1990’s missionary Mark Buhler has been actively involved with the community to stem the deforestation of Kijabe, Kenya. "The future of the whole mission station is at stake," says Mark. "The future of the whole mission station [Rift Valley Academy, Kijabe Hospital, Moffat Bible College] is at stake," he says.
Contacts with the local community and with government officials have been forged and modest gains have been made through community education, tree planting days, and the establishment of tree nurseries.
