Racefield Academy: a second chance
In Kenya there is little room for classroom error. Kids who fall behind (for whatever reason) are barred from further education.

Racefield Academy was started by Kenyan couple Sammy and Felista Kituo who wanted to give neighbourhood drop-outs a second chance. They have succeeded -- today Racefield students produce higher test scores than any other district school.

vidgraphic.gifTheir vision is a school that consists of a kindergarten and eight classrooms for primary school, four classrooms for secondary school, water tanks (water is a scarce commodity), as well as a dormitory for both the primary and secondary school students. Many individuals and churches have already played a part in giving these cToday Racefield students produce higher test scores than any other district schoolhildren a chance at a future, by providing the funds for constructing the kindergarten, all eight primary classrooms and the dormitory for the primary school.  The primary school should be completed this year, after which work will begin on the secondary school.  The high school will consist of 4 classrooms ($3500 each), dorm ($12,000), toilets and bath houses ($2000), plus about 6 water tanks ($700 each).  Money donated to this project will also help buy necessary textbooks and school supplies.

In order to be self-sustaining once the school buildings are complete, Racefield is building a dormitory for students who live far away, but can afford private education. The fees charged to wealthier students will help pay for the less fortunate.
