A massive drought has left millions of East Africans at risk of starvation. Even Kenya – the wealthiest country in the Horn of Africa – faces a situation in which one in 10 people need food assistance.
 
“People are starving and the animals are starving,” says Thomas Musyoki, a local businessman and church leader. “One of my watchmen told me, ‘I do not want to go home in the morning; when my cows see me they start mooing—they want food. My children start crying—they want food; I feel like giving up.’”
