When I lived in a mud hut on the church compound in Dungu it was easy to trace the comings and goings of the visitors by the tracks that were left in the dust or the mud: paw prints, foot prints, shoe prints, tyre tracks. Here, with a yard of gravel and grass it's not so easy to read from the ground the passage of people. However, some visitors leave signs of their coming on the cement of the veranda.

WIDOWS
ISP/CECA-20 is looking to recruit a team of widows. The successful candidates will be able to bother officials and wear them out by their constant coming. They will possess ardour and a strong sense of justice in order to present the school's request for timely attention to documentation

COMPETENT QUANTITY SURVEYOR
We are not building a tower but we do seek someone competent to estimate the cost of our building to see if we have enough money to complete it. We do not want to expose ourselves to ridicule by starting to build and not being able to

I had hopes of 'ameliorating mon français' when I returned to Bunia. I was looking forward to getting back into a milieu where I could use it in a communicative context. However, that's proving to be a forlorn hope.
My personal world seems to be distinctly mono-lingual - English. I prepare and teach classes in English. My communication with the students and most of the teachers connected to ISP is in English. I'm surrounded by English books in the library and read many of them to be able to recommend them. Students in town come to use the library facilities and of course they want to practice their English. |

'Being cheerful keeps you healthy. It is slow death to be gloomy all the time.' Proverbs 17:22
"Yes, Gosapa, you have a question?"

Ten Years On
- 1996 -
Then it was Christmas in exile;
A refugee in Kenya
Along with the many evacuated from Zaire.
Borrowed lodgings, clothes and toiletries.
Unknown present; unknown future.
Fighting 'back home';
Danger, fear and loss. |

Monday morning
I agreed to do the bookkeeping for the school; I received the title Administratrice du Budget; I inherited the unenviable task of ensuring that school fees are paid. There were some, many, too many students who were late with their payments, and salaries and overheads needed to be settled. I didn't relish the thought of going to school on Monday morning. I thought hard as to the wording of the notice so that it would be as objective and unobjectionable as possible. |

So we're into taking mud baths to improve our complexions?
Or we're boasting of the number of containers that we possess?
Maybe we're composing a still life called 'Portrait of Plastic'?
Why not try making money by turning water into oil like the prophet's widow who filled all possible vessels?
