Each time I walk through the centre of town there seems to be a new banner stretched across the road encouraging the population to fight: Luttons! But this is the good fight. Last month we were fighting against rape. Last week against polio, this week against malaria. |

Why do little boys always have to hold moving objects or failing that, make stationary objects into moving objects?! So the 2-handled serving dish becomes the handles of a motor bike as he 'brmmms' along the road on his Walter Mitty Harley-Davidson. |

Most roads in Bunia have some kind of ditch cut along their edges. It's the unspoken rule that the proprietor has to keep his stretch of ditch clean and in good order. |

In praise of the humble blackboard
Do you know why I like my autodidact and university English classes so much? It’s because we meet in purpose-built classrooms which are light and airy and have beautiful lengths of blackboard along one whole wall. The boards have smooth surfaces which don’t undulate, and the chalk fairly speeds across them creating fine, even chalk marks that are highly visible. |

We gathered in Kampala, Uganda, for the first AIM Central Region conference. There were some who have been colleagues over many years, even decades. But there were many short-termers - young and fresh-faced and full of energy. The pre-conference notes asked us to prepare to share our testimony. Time didn't permit everyone to speak but I had thought out what I would say. |
