Samburu Update: “Praising God for Six Baptisms!”

It is exciting to hear that the Samburu of the South Horr Valley are coming to the Lord.

Six ladies were recently baptized in a small baptismal trough (see photo). The trough was specially constructed, filled by a water tank fed from a spring up the mountain; after the service, the water was then used for watering camels.

The Maples, who minister among the Samburu, report it was such a joy to baptize these ladies after such a long time. Many ladies from a church ‘down in the valley’ came to watch and give testimony.

…I was struggling with believing, for I did not know the full story of Jesus. After hearing these stories for many months, I now know the truth is Jesus…

One of the testimonies came from a woman who was near death. She says: “Many years ago I was so sick and facing death. A missionary came and got me and brought me to a hospital where I was able to get the medicine I needed to fully recover. I was told about Jesus during this time, but I never chose to believe in Him and went on with my life. Now, as an adult, I have been reminded many times of how God saved me from dying and how I was struggling with believing, for I did not know the full story of Jesus. After hearing these stories for many months, I now know the truth is Jesus and have trusted Him fully as my Lord and Saviour.”

Another encouraging testimony from a Samburu woman shares of reconciliation with her father: ”When I was young, my dad made me marry a very old man. My husband was a drunk and beat me daily. I wanted to die and thought about killing myself, but I was too afraid. Then one day my dad came to me and realized he had made a terrible mistake and brought me home. I thought my life was over, for in Samburu culture, once you are married, you cannot marry again and I had no children. But then I heard the stories of Jesus. I met Jesus and I know my life will be okay. I also know that my dad loves me.”

A final testimony came from a man in the church who encouraged other men to follow Jesus and to lead their families with the help of the Lord.

Praise the Lord for His goodness and His work among the Samburu of the South Horr Valley!
