“For me, the two years with TIMO were glorious. Everything — language, culture, worldview — was stripped away. All my worldly dependencies were being broken by the Holy Spirit. God showed me His wonderful faithfulness and amazing grace.”- Former TIMO member Not sure where to begin? Is God calling you to cross-cultural ministry but you’re not sure where to begin? Then TIMO (Training In Ministry Outreach) may be the answer. TIMO (pronounced ‘team-o’) is a two-year training programme with a team approach to learning and to outreach across cultures. Teams consist of six to ten members led by an experienced missionary or couple. The team lives among an unreached or partially unreached people group, learning their language and culture and allowing God to provide ways of sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with them. You might be wondering, ‘can I do this? What makes a good TIMO member?’ First, you need to love Jesus — to have a longing to play an active part in His commission to the Church. Next, you need to be a learner — to have a hunger to know and understand — by entering into the world of your host community and discovering how the gospel can be lived out in culturally relevant ways. You need to be flexible — life in Africa, where most of our teams work, can be frustrating if you’re not flexible and willing to go with the flow. You need to be a team player — you’ll need your team mates and they’ll need you. You need to be resourceful — TIMO requires a simple lifestyle so you might not have the resources you think you need for every situation you encounter. Also, do you have leadership experience? If you do, TIMO teams provide you with the best opportunities to use your gifts in vital and life-changing ways. So, can you do this? Not by yourself. Learning to depend prayerfully on God is central to the TIMO experience. Interested in joining a TIMO team?
