Our CMT met this afternoon and expressed a cautious optimism in the current progress towards stability. The death of the second MP yesterday did not evoke as strong a reaction around the country as we had envisioned. There continued to be a positive rhetoric among leaders stating their commitment to peace and dialogue.

At the end of the day, the mediation talks led by Koffi Annan announced that they are "off to a good start." The two teams agreed on the agenda that would be followed in addressing both short and long-term issues. He stated that the most urgent short-term issues can be addressed within 10-14 days.

The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki Moon, arrived in the country and added his weight towards the mediation efforts as he met with the team and various leaders.

Please continue to pray for Kenya.
