Magambua, Tanzania - Cataract surgeries performed recently by a visiting Tanzanian eye doctor and his team gave new sight to 13 patients of a small clinic in rural Tanzania.

“It was a special joy to see our facilities used to make a big difference in the lives of our patients,” said AIM missionary Kim Stengele, who founded the clinic and serves there as a nurse. “For many of the patients this surgery made the difference between being blind and having sight once again.”

“It was neat to be present when the bandages were removed the day after surgery,” said Kim. “[There were] comments like, ‘Hey, I can see, now I can go get my fields ready,” or, ‘I can see the mountain again!’"

“They came being led and walking with canes and were able to walk away on their own. Most of them recognized God’s enabling in all of this.”

Kim has requested that the team return sometime in 2007, and is hopeful that they can return on a regular basis every six months.
