Kapsowar, Kenya - “One of the most rewarding opportunities of serving at Kapsowar is participating in the training of doctors poised to reenter South Sudan,” writes AIM missionary Dr. Paul Larson, who serves at the Africa Inland Church’s Kapsowar Hospital in Kapsowar, Kenya. The hospital is one of several in Kenya to host Sudanese doctors for a one-year medical internship before they return to help rebuild South Sudan following two decades of civil war. Once counted as some of Sudan’s “Lost Boys” -- 17,000 boys who fled Sudan en masse due to the war -- this group of doctors received their medical training in Cuba and later settled in Canada as refugees. Fifteen have now enrolled to upgrade their medical training and invest themselves in rebuilding the country they once fled as children. “The testimony of these doctors is nothing short of miraculous,” says Paul. “It is a real joy and privilege to teach [them] as much as possible about complicated Obstetric care and Pediatrics... They are eager learners and a fun addition to our community at Kapsowar.”
