Elementary students helped organize a tea for senior citizens in the local church community. The children met an 85-year-old man who told them how a missionary had come to him as a boy and taught him ‘Jesus Loves Me.’ The group sang the song together, the kids in English and the seniors in Kikuyu. Another group of 12 students, a Kenyan pastor, a local tradesman, and some RVA staff traveled into the Rift Valley to build a house for a widow. By day’s end the house, measuring 15’ x 30’, was near completion. AIM missionary Elwood Nelson, who serves on staff at RVA, participated in the project. “Although the walls will still have to be mudded," said Elwood, "we could see the elderly lady was extremely grateful to have such a place to look forward to.” He added, “Her old house was a 5’x10’ structure with old tin siding and roof with many places that had worn through. This shack was where she slept, cooked, and stored all of her belongings. Now she will have a 3-roomed house nine times bigger than the previous one. It is in giving of ourselves that we are blessed.” |
