An outreach team extends Christ's love to prostitutes living on the islands of Lake Victoria

Prostitutes, known on the islands of Lake Victoria as "barmaids" or "working girls" very seldom stand in line to go to church. But during the "Jesus Is Life – Take the Lake in 2006" campaign they did just that.

AIM missionary Dale Hamilton explains, "A ministry team from the Holland First Assembly of God was with us for only three nights on Ikuza Island. They had a specific burden to have an outreach to the barmaids and working-ladies of the adjoining fishing camp. Hmmmmm....we scratched our heads, how to do that! Then we got an idea. Why not have a ‘high tea’ just for them?"

Everyone was all dressed up like it was clinic or market day...it was a party!Special invitations were handed out to 240 women telling of a ladies only ‘Tafrija’ (a party) at the Ikuza church. Said Dale, "The following day when the doors opened 420 ladies showed up! They were sharp! Everyone was all dressed up like it was clinic or market day...it was a party! The church was all decorated, the floor lined with tarps (we have no pews). Somehow the tea and sheet cakes stretched...some say they were ‘multiplied.’ Special drawing gifts of Talking Bibles with solar panels went out to some excited women. Our visitors from Holland, Michigan, presented some moving and very pointed mimes about HIV/AIDS and Jesus’ love. [My wife] Chris did some teaching on those subjects as well.

"When an invitation was given at the end, 23 ladies accepted Christ as Savior. Later that evening one lady came back to single out Chris to bare her soul that she was dying of AIDS and wanted to accept Jesus.

"It was an amazing time!"
