“Let them give glory to the LORD and proclaim his praise in the islands.” 
-Is. 42:12

Making God known to the people living in the islands of the Indian Ocean off the coast of Africa is a daunting challenge.  The inhabitants are largely unreached, almost totally Muslim, and historically quite resistant to the Gospel.

All of these are good reasons for lifting up those called to building God’s Kingdom in the islands, as well as those bound up in spiritual darkness, awaiting liberation.

One AIM missionary with a heart for the islands offers the following points for prayer.

INSIGHT - Pray for workers who live among Muslim people groups to have wisdom, prudence, knowledge, and discretion as they are given occasions to share the love of Christ.  (Prov. 8:l2)

STRENGTH - Specific diseases such as cholera, malaria, dengue and chikungunya have moved through the Indian Ocean islands.  Depression is also a problem specific to island life.  Pray that God will sustain His people with protection in body, spirit, and mind, and provide healing and grace as needed.

LIGHT - Many approaches for sharing the Good News have been tried.  Pray that God will bless translation efforts with the proper language needed to correctly convey His Truth.  Pray for light to come to the islands through other methods.  Ask God to open and protect the distribution channels.  (Ps. 119:130)

ARMOR - Trials, troubles, injustice, and division are all common schemes of the evil one and are intended to sidetrack believers.  Pray that they will put on the armor of God.  Pray especially for love and unity among the Body. (Eph. 6)

NATIONS - Pray for the African nations of the Indian Ocean. Many are politically unstable.
Many are affected by natural disasters such as volcanic activity, cyclones, tsunamis... Others are beset with drug use and rising AIDS infection rates.  (Ps. 98:1,2)

DRAWING - Pray that God will call hearts to Himself through literature, media projects, personal friendships, dreams and visions. Pray for university students and diplomats living outside the islands to meet believers who can rightly share God’s Word with them.  Ask God to preserve
the seeds sown and produce eternal fruit.  (John 6:44)
